Anime News of the Week (8/4/20-8/10/20)

Greetings! I hope you're all doing well. As you can see, this is something a little different than what you'd usually expect from this blog. I've decided to add another weekly column to my blog in the form of anime news. Don't worry though! I'm still planning on doing my weekly anisong rankings and weekly anime reviews post. Also, don't expect too much from my anime news post every week. I just wanted to share my favorite news from the week! And this is how I decided to accomplish that. Anyway, let's see what caught my eye this week, shall we?

Miss Kobayashi's Dragon Maid 2nd Season to Air in 2021!

The official Twitter account for the Miss Kobayashi's Dragon Maid anime announced today that it will be returning with a 2nd season in 2021! It will be called Miss Kobayashi's Dragon Maid S. It's not known at this time who will be directing the series. Sadly, the director of the first season passed away during arson attack at Kyoto Animation last year. But KyoAni will be the ones handling the anime once again!

Check out the Social Distancing key visual below:

I'm very excited that we're getting another season of Miss Kobayashi's Dragon Maid! I can't wait! And if you can't wait until 2021, you can always rewatch the first season on Crunchyroll or Funimation.

Synopsis: Miss Kobayashi is your average office worker who lives a boring life, alone in her small apartment–until she saves the life of a female dragon in distress. The dragon, named Tohru, has the ability to magically transform into an adorable human girl (albeit with horns and a long tail!), who will do anything to pay off her debt of gratitude, whether Miss Kobayashi likes it or not. With a very persistent and amorous dragon as a roommate, nothing comes easy, and Miss Kobayashi’s normal life is about to go off the deep end!

Set in feudal Japan, half-demon twins Towa and Setsuna are separated from each other during a forest fire. While desperately searching for her younger sister, Towa wanders into a mysterious tunnel that sends her into present-day Japan, where she is found and raised by Kagome Higurashi’s brother, Sota, and his family.

Ten years later, the tunnel that connects the two eras has reopened, allowing Towa to be reunited with Setsuna, who is now a demon slayer working for Kohaku. But to Towa’s shock, Setsuna appears to have lost all memories of her older sister. Joined by Moroha, the daughter of Inuyasha and Kagome, the three young women travel between the two eras on an adventure to regain their missing past.

Act-Age Manga Canceled

I didn't want to bring this news up because it disgusts me but I feel people should know about it if they haven't already heard about it. It was reported that Tatsuya Matsuki, the author of Act-Age, was arrested over the weekend for sexually assaulting a couple of middle school female students. Shonen Jump, who published weekly chapters of the series, and the manga's artist, Shiro Usazaki, have agreed to end the series with the last chapter being released on August 11th.

Here's the English statement released by Mangaplus:

"Matsuki Tatsuya, the writer of Act-Age was arrested on August 8, 2020.

The editorial department takes this situation very seriously, and after confirming the matter and discussing it with Shiro Usazaki Sensei, the artist for the series, we have come to the conclusion that it is impossible to continue with its serialization. The chapter that is in combined issue 36/37 of Weekly Shonen Jump will be the final chapter.

It is extremely unfortunate to have to end a series that has received so much support from so many readers in this way. However, this decision was made because of the nature of the incident, and because Weekly Shonen Jump recognizes the weight of its social responsibility.

We offer our deepest regrets and apologies to our readers. This is a difficult time for Usazaki Sensei, but the editorial department offers Usazaki Sensei our support and encouragement for future works.

Information about graphic novel volumes and related publications and events will be announced as they are decided.

August 10, 2020

I know all the fans of the Act-Age manga must be disappointed and disgusted with the news. I never got around to reading the manga and now I never will. I only hope that Usazaki's career isn't ruined by this.
