What Citrus Has Taught Me

What Citrus Has Taught Me

Oh snap, another blog post this week? AMAZING! To be honest with you, I get numerous ideas in my head every week that I think would make enjoyable blog posts. The problem I face is that I'm usually too busy to actually write them down. That or I'm too lazy. Mostly the latter. Either way, the struggle is real. BUT HEY, I'M DOING MY BEST TO SHARE SOME OF THEM WITH ALL OF YOU! And believe me, I have a lot of great ideas. At least I'd like to think so.

I have always had the most fun writing satirical comedy informative and compelling pieces. Not to brag or anything but I think I'm a genius in this field. That being said, I hope you will all enjoy this piece as much as I will enjoy writing it.

Disclaimer/Warning: There may or may not be spoilers below. It is in your best interest to not try and contemplate when I'm being serious or not. If you're offended easily...you shouldn't be here. Just enjoy the ride! Continue at your own risk. You have been warned!

Damn, I have missed writing those disclaimers. Anyways, the 2018 Winter Anime Season will be ending soon. In my opinion, it has been a pretty great season. It's only natural I feel that way. Why? Oh, I dunno...maybe because the GREATEST ANIME EVER MADE, POP TEAM EPIC, aired this season!!!! I never knew what true greatness was until I watched Pop Team Epic. My life is complete now. I can die happy. But this blog post isn't about Pop Team Epic. Now that I think about though...maybe it should have.

Okay, enough about the sexiness that is Pop Team Epic. There were other great shows from this season. The second season of March Comes in Like a Lion was phenomenal. Good job Shaft. You may have made me sick of the Monogatari series but you did a good job with this show. How to Keep a Mummy almost killed me numerous times this season with cuteness overload. Love the show so much. Laid Back Camp mellowed me out every week. I'm gonna miss my chill camp Thursdays. But with every good show, there has to be a bad one. There were a few bad apples this season but none more rotten than Citrus.

Seems pretty innocent.

At first glance, it looks like a show about an innocent love between two high school girls. Nothing wrong with that. Who doesn't love some good yuri, am I right? Yuri is always peachy in my books. It seemed to me that I was in store for a heartwarming romance.

And then I actually watched the show. It was nothing like I expected. It was not a heartwarming romance. There was no innocent yuri. Instead, what we got was a discombobulated story of high school girls being...well, sexually aggressive. And I don't mean that in a good way. They're sexual deviants. Yup, you read that right. Basically, what Citrus has taught me is that Japanese high school girls are sexual predators. Let me repeat that one more time. Japanese high school girls are sexual predators.

I know this may come as a shock to a lot of you but it's true. I was certainly astonished. I always thought it would be Japanese high school boys who would turn out to be the sexual predators. But alas, it seems it was the girls all along that could not contain their urges.

Well, damn. Things certainly escalated quickly...

There are two main characters in Citrus, Yuzu Aihara and Mei Aihara. At the beginning of the show Yuzu's mom marries Mei's father. The two girls move in together. They become step-sisters. Blah, blah, blah. You get the gist of it. At first, Yuzu dislikes her new step-sister Mei. She seems to have a cold attitude. It's somewhat understandable. They don't really know each other. I wouldn't expect them to become friendly with each other right away. Now here is where things start to get weird. Randomly out of nowhere...Mei starts making unwanted sexual advances towards Yuzu. She literally pins her down and starts kissing her.

Seriously, what?

Yuzu is perplexed these actions and rightfully so! She tells her to stop. Mei doesn't stop immediately but she does eventually. We can already tell Mei is a weirdo and quite possibly an aggressive sexual predator. Yuzu doesn't like any of this and is extremely frustrated with her step-sister. Hell, she pretty much hates her now. At this point, I expected her to distance herself from Mei like any normal person would do in her situation. Of course, that doesn't happen. Instead, Yuzu starts to fall in love with her. Yup. She starts to fall in love with the step-sister that forced herself on her - multiple times if I may add. What the actual f**k?

Doesn't make any sense.

When Yuzu attempts sexual advances on Mei...she denies them. She's not into it now? Okay. But of course, as anyone watching this show will learn, these girls never take no for an answer. Thus, Yuzu forcefully makes out with her step-sister. Yup. Yuzu has also become a sexual predator. This bizarre cycle repeats itself throughout the show over and over again. Mei aggressively makes a move on Yuzu, she's not into it. Mei keeps going anyways. Yuzu forces herself on Mei, she says no. Yuzu doesn't stop. Rinse and repeat.

Your face says no but it's actually a yes, right? No? Don't care.
This is happening, whether you like it or not.
Can't stop, won't stop.

This entire show is literally Japanese high school girls constantly forcing themselves on each other. They simply cannot take "no" for an answer. It's like every girl on this show has a crazy case of Stockholm syndrome. It's freaking weird, man. In Yuzu's case, she only preys on Mei. That's who she "loves" and that's who she wants, no one else. That's admirable in a way, I guess? I don't know. Mei, on the other hand, is a slut. I tried to find a nicer way to say that but I just couldn't. She's a slut. She forces herself on Yuzu, Yuzu's friends, and any poor unsuspecting girls that happen to be around. She's a goddamn monster.

F**king slut.

And you know what the worst part is? Mei is apparently every girl's role model because every other character that gets introduced turns out to be just as bad as her. Way to go Mei, way to go. Now every high school girl will turn out to be a sexual predator. JUST. LIKE. YOU.

I love how you taste when you're not into it. Mmm.
.
On a side note, I hate how a good chunk of anime focuses on sibling/incest love stories. Japan has an unhealthy obsession with it. Do the Japanese actually fantasize about such scenarios? Is it supposed to be sexy? Whatever the case, I'm tired of Japan force-feeding it to us. Keep that sh!t to your yourselves, Japan. Or at least keep it only in your hentai. We know how much you love your ero anime.

Just stop, Japan.

Citrus is a terrible show with awful characters. Every single character is a despicable human being. Well, that's not true. There is ONE character from the show that isn't a scumbag. That would be Yuzu's best friend, Harumi Taniguchi. Not only can she control her urges, she's actually a great person. She's the only character that shows any common sense and decency.

Harumin, you're the best.

To reiterate one last time, Japanese high school girls are sexual predators. If I have learned anything in my life it's that anything I see in anime is true. Probably. Don't watch this show. If you're a high school girl, definitely don't watch it. Don't need you getting any funny ideas. If you're a Japanese high school girl, well, you'd probably love this show.
